1. To enhance pupils’ understanding of other countries and cultures through studying Japanese.


2. To enable the pupils to acquire interpersonal communication skill through the process of learning Japanese and thus nurture and build up their strength and confidence as global citizens.


3. Upon completion of their study at the end of P6, pupils are expected to be able to read and write simple sentences, carry out conversations about topics encountered in daily lives and classroom situations in Japanese.


4. Some pupils may be able to participate in the Level N5 examination of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (an international benchmark examination)conducted by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services .







1.   Elective subject for P3 to P6 pupils.


2.   To learn the Japanese syllabic systems of Hiragana and Katakana, daily greetings, everyday exchanges,simple situational conversations and short presentations.


3.   Basic training of the skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing.
